What are you playing?

128 posts in this topic

In the little free time I have left, I've been playing Sonic Lost World, Super Mario Maker, and Super Smash Bros. for Wii U. I like them all so far.

Oh, and Final Fantasy VI, since I've, uh, never actually played it.

You like Sonic Lost World? I thought that was a big fat flopperooney

I got Halo 5 and have done a tiny bit of haloing with Jamie and his scouse friends, but I still have to go back and complete the Master Chief Collection so I can play the Halo 5's campaign. I have so much catching up to do. If you have the game, come play with me

So sue me. I thought it was pretty good, at least in comparison to the absolutely glacial 3DS version where someone had the brilliant idea that a handheld game should have many, many 30-minute levels with the time padded out by what are essentially fetch quests.

Ive never owned an Xbox in my life, so enjoy your Halo without me.

Brah, I was legitimately wondering why you personally enjoyed it, since I heard that it was another flop along with Sonic Boom, which my nephews own and I tried to play it with them but it was utterly terrible that I gave up and let them play. What did you like about? Don't play Sonic Boom if you were thinking about it btw

I played the demo of Sonic Boom. That was enough for me.

The Wii U version of Sonic Lost World is gorgeous, has varied levels, and generally has smartly thought out mechanics. It does have a few crappy levels and worse, backtracking to rescue enough animals to unlock the next set of levels, but I just went to my go-to level De(s)sert Ruins to do it.

It's better than Sonic Boom or Sonic 06, worse than Generations and Colors.

Tribes Ascend finally made its Out Of The Blue update public yesterday. In case you don't know, that's the first update in 2 years. Myth and I played a bit only to realise that 90% of the people playing right now are the diehard fans who never stopped so we were getting rekt supremely.

To be fair I was never good at Tribes.

But God damn I don't get how people aim so well in that game.

I played Tribes again yesterday and did pretty well (though it was a pretty small map so there was constant action). The trick is that you don't gotta go fast, at least not when it comes to shooting. Heresy, I know, but trust me on this one. Taking time and planning your shots works wonders and you'll automatically get faster as you get a better. Got 13 or 14 kills, 4 of which were airshots, plus a bunch of assists.

Since Christmas was yesterday, I used some glorious Christmas money to buy Danganronpa Another Episode: Ultra Despair Girls (because of course I did) and Undertale. I'm impressed by Danganronpa to a certain extent, though the camera is garbage even in auto mode. Undertale is as good as everyone kept saying it is, though.

Started playing The Witness along with a few other people in university today. From what I can tell so far, it has some very creative puzzles. Apparently Jon Blow thought some of them were so good that he had to repeat them over and over. As in, you get to a new area, spend some time figuring out a new rule or mechanic and then apply that knowledge a dozen or more times, often with only minor variations. Kind of disappointing in that regard but I only played a few hours so far, so maybe it gets better.

I'm doing an internship instead of lectures this semester, so I got a lot more free time. That combined with the fact that the place I'm staying at through the week has no internet connection means I'm finally going to work through my backlog. So right now I'm mostly playing Steins;gate and once I'm done with that I'll hopefully manage to get through the slog that is Oddworld. Many more games left after that (first world problems).

You suck Felix.

Also forgot to mention I played the new Hitman.

Should have launched with more missions but is basically Blood Money 2 so it's pretty good.

I didn't even try to get into the Beta because I'm not a nerd, nerd.

Anyway, I've been avoiding Oddworld and playing SpaceChem, as well as The Swapper, both of which are much better puzzle games.

Regardless of whatever else I'm playing at the moment, I'd just like to say that the 20XX hack pack for melee is love and life.

I have retreated to my past and am replaying Tony Hawk's Underground. The cutscenes are amazing.

Also you guys really need to get Rocket League so we can play together. @Jamieand I have played an unhealthy amount of that game.

Tony Hawk's Underground is amazing. I am convinced Eric Sparrow is the worst person in video games, leagues above Mecha Hitler (who did nothing wrong).

Haha yes, there are very few video game characters that I wish I could physically punch in the face and Eric Sparrow is at the top of my hit list. First, he "forgets" to sign you up for the Tampa Am, so you have to score billions of points in front of Tony Hawk to persuade him to let you in, and then he straight up steals the footage of you doing a death-defying MCTWIST BETWEEN TWO BUILDINGS OVER A FREAKING HELICOPTER.

Don't forget actually stealing a tank in Russia and then leaving you behind (injured) to take the blame.

I'm playing ethd's beloved Dangit Ron Paul. I saw the entire plot in the anime some time ago but have forgotten it almost completely, which is the best kind of spoiler.

I'm at Danganronpa 2 now. Also yesterday I got my Minesweeper beginner highscore down to 3 seconds.

    • awesome review . i like how you never discard UFG regacy forum  .
    • Let's just get right into it, shall we? Sonic Mania
Platforms: PC-Steam, PlayStation 4 (reviewed), Xbox One, Switch
      Developer: Christian Whitehead/headCANNON/PagodaWest Games
      Publisher: SEGA
Release date: August 15, 2017 (PS4/XB1/Switch), delaying the PC version is just another bullshit excuse from Sega and them pretending that Sonic was ever good (PC)
      Price upon release: $19.99
Buy it: Oh no Sonic Mania is the latest in the Sonic series of games going back to 1991 that were released on Sega systems. They were considered revolutionary at the time, blending the platforming action of Mario with the speed of 3-D World Runner. As you can tell, it's an incredibly derivative game design and it's amazing anyone ever found it revolutionary in the first place. The first game in the series was called "Sonic the Hedgehog," an unimaginative title which just spells out the name of the character. Sonic 1 is a non issue, it's just a terrible game. Anyways, if Sonic was ever good, which he wasn't, and if you think he ever was you like to have sex with Big the Cat, the only good ones were the 2D ones like Sonic 1 or Sonic 2. I remember when I was a kid going through Green Hill Zone from Sonic 2, that was pretty fun. But it's pretty clear Sonic lost his way after they stopped making 2D games in 1998 with Sonic Adventure, and every single Sonic game since has been awful. I mean, just look at Sonic Adventure. How can this pass as a modern game? Janky animations, lousy voice acting, and a convoluted story. What year is this? And let's not forget the abominations that were Sonic 06 and Sonic Boom. Those three games cement just how far Sonic has fallen and how his 3D games have never, ever been good. I mentioned earlier that Sonic was never good in the first place, but he was neverer good in the 3D games. Like, seriously, I can't stress enough how there was never a good 3D Sonic game. It's like Sega took a nap from 1994 to 2017. Actually, they're still napping, because the beautiful game that is Sonic Mania wasn't even made by Sega. It's a glorified fangame that just so happens to be out on consoles. But I guess it's pretty good, if you like this kind of game. It looks nice, at least, but all it does for me is proves how Sonic was never good in the first place. There are enemies that pop up before you even have a chance to react and if you're not prepared, BOOM, there go all of your coins. I think it's stupid how Sonic loses his coins whenever he gets hurt. Why can't it be something like Mario where you keep all of your coins even when you die? It's easier to get extra lives that way. Mario is way better than Sonic. Mario was always way better than Sonic. Quick, try and say there's ever been a bad Mario game ever. Time's up, and as of writing this there are no comments below the post so the polls are closed. Kind of like Yooka-Laylee, the dated mechanics of Sonic Mania show through just how dreadful of a game series this always was. It's time to put down Sonic. He needs to die. That's why my score for Sonic Mania is 10/10. This score is reserved for some of the best of the best games out there and I'm proud to give it to such a terrible game series as Sonic which doesn't deserve this rating. I rescind my 10/10 rating and give it an 11/10 that it clearly deserves much more for being a terrible game. (Working on a real review, including pictures of the Collector's Edition for Steam. It should be up Soon™)
